Oki Semiconductor Announces First Low Cost Speech CODEC with Specific Combination of Speech Coding and Telephony Functions
New Product Ideally Suited as Analog Front End for VoIP Applications
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Oki Semiconductor, a leading technology partner for the new era of digital communications and convergence, today announced the ML7074, a speech CODEC designed specifically as an analog front-end for Voice over IP (VoIP) applications. Oki Semiconductor's new CODEC is optimally suited for adding VoIP functions to terminal adapters, routers, business phones and other technologies, as it has many of the same characteristics of an echo canceller for 32 msec delay, tone detection and generation, and dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) detection.
The echo canceller incorporated in the ML7074 is not only effective for near-end line echoes in SLIC connection, but also for cancellation of acoustic echoes if the system supports hands-free operation. It has a 3.3V power supply, and supports high quality straight pulse code modulation (PCM) data all the way up to the data-rate conscious ITU-T G.729.A format.
"With the introduction of the ML7074, Oki Semiconductor is one of the key telecom vendors to respond to market demand for a CODEC that requires a specific combination of speech coding and telephony functions at a reasonable price," said Eric Nguyen, senior product marketing manager for telecom products, Oki Semiconductor. "Currently available all-in-one solutions are more expensive than necessary for most practical VoIP purposes."
The ML7074 has a pin-selectable PCM interface along with the conventional analog terminal side interface, which enables customers to reuse proven analog designs with new and enhanced VoIP capabilities. This feature allows designers to support both digital and analog VoIP systems.
Other features of Oki Semiconductor's ML7074-001 include:
-- Speech CODECs for G.729.A (8 kbps), G.726 (32kbps) and G.711 (64 kbps,
u-law/A-law)
-- Mutual voice compression: G.729.A (8kbps),<-> G.726 (32 kbps), G.711
(64 kbps), u-law/A-law)
-- Terminal side voice interfaces: analog, 16-bit linear PCM (2's
complement), or G.711
-- Selectable master/slave clock
-- Synchronization clock/bit clock: 8 kHz/64 to 2048 kHz
-- Built-in echo canceller, 32 ms max.
-- DTMF detector and generator
-- Tone detector, dual tone (1650 Hz and 2100 Hz; selectable)
-- FSK generation function
-- Internal transmit/receive 640 byte FIFO
-- Selectable frame/DMA (slave) interface
-- Supply voltage: 3.0 to 33.6V
